Update 29th April 2021

After a whirlwind first week back, the resumption of sport and physical activity delivery in line with the national guidance is front of our minds. We are working hard to re-establish our extra-curricular programmes across Aberdeenshire. However this week, we’ve got some big news to let you know about.

New Glow Website

During the last few months, we have been working hard on developing brand new Google sites for education staff and pupils.

These sites are available through Glow by clicking on the appropriate tile, whilst ensuring you are signed in to your associated Glow/Google account. The sites have lots of fantastic resources and information available on them ranging from session plans to online videos to information about who we are, how we can support schools and even a suggestions box for any ideas you may have or things you’d like to see Active Schools offer in extra-curricular activity.

The Education Staff Google Site can be found using this link whilst signed into your Glow account or by using the appropriate tile on Glow – https://sites.google.com/as.glow.scot/asaeducationstaff/home

The pupil site is primarily a resource for secondary pupils however it does have something for all ages, whether that’s information on participation, video sessions or a little bit more about volunteering and careers in sport for senior pupils.

The Pupil Google Site can be found using this link whilst signed into your Glow account or by using the appropriate tile on Glow –  https://sites.google.com/as.glow.scot/asapupilsite/home

We’d appreciate if you can share both these sites with the appropriate groups and let us know any feedback you may have or things you’d like to see on either site.

By Kids for Kids Challenges

As some of our sessions get up and running we will be bringing our By Kids for Kids challenges to a close over the next couple of weeks.  However this week we have a figure of 8 challenge.  How many can you achieve in the 60 seconds available?

Remember if you’ve missed a challenge or want to check out what these are then visit the Live Life Aberdeenshire YouTube challenge for all our physical activity challenges and sessions

Active Schools supporting Schools to keep children and adults active during lockdown (13/01/2021)

With all sport and physical activity sessions run through Active Schools being suspended currently, we wanted to provide you with information on some of the fantastic resources and online content we have created that you could use to support your school’s pupils with keeping physically active during their home schooling period.

You may remember during the summer we set a variety of challenges each week for pupils to participate in and send us their best efforts and our series of Mindfulness Videos thanks to one of our partner organisations allowing people the opportunity to take a few minutes out of their day to relax and unwind.   There are approximately 20 videos that have now been added to a YouTube playlist on the Live Life Aberdeenshire YouTube channel and can be viewed and tried at any point.

Active Schools Join in Playlist – https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLf9SJJOIgiNL5zD4xvzj9nYXJkTvqOuE6

Outwith the video content, the team have designed a fantastic Stay Active at Home set of online resource cards that can be downloaded from the Live Life at Home page of the LLA website with some simple games and ideas to help keep children active at home.

Active Schools Resource Cards – http://bit.ly/ASAResourceCards or http://bit.ly/ASACreativeCards

We also have a series of lesson plans for some of the sports and physical activities that we offer that could be used or adapted to carry out a physical activity in a suitable space. If you would like more information on these lesson plans then please contact your local Active Schools Coordinator who can help you.

Finally, we are also working on a plan to create some brand new online activity sessions that pupils can take part in from the comfort of their own home.

The first of these takes the form a dance session lead by our Alford Coordinator Fiona Preston.  The video will be released live on YouTube on Wednesday 13th January at 10am
