S3 – Scottish National Standardised Assessments (SNSA)

From session 2017-18, the Scottish Government have introduced some new Standardised Assessments to focus on aspects of reading, writing and numeracy.

These assessments will be completed by all pupils in Primary 1, P4, P7 and Secondary 3.

The assessments are completed online and results will be used to help teachers plan the next steps in learning for each child, in order for them to make the best possible progress and also highlight any areas which may require some further support or intervention.

Pupils cannot revise or prepare for these assessments.  They are designed to be used as part of normal learning and teaching and the information they provide will be used in the same way as other assessment information which arises from day to day classes/lessons.

Further support and information can be found in the following locations:

S1 MidYIS Information

MidYIS is an hour-long assessment. It is designed to measure, as far as possible, ability and aptitude for learning rather than achievement. MidYIS is not an IQ Test as it is designed to provide a measure of ‘typical’ performance.
