Round Up March 2017
This has been a very busy term for all the afterschool sports clubs with the addition of Girls Rugby on a Tuesday and Climbing Club on a Thursday.
Girls Rugby Club – Girls Rugby is being led by Deeside Rugby Club coaches Andy Ronald and Colin Feeley. This session is aimed at encouraging more girls to take up the sport through learning touch rugby and rules of the game and introduce a fitness element to help them develop skills. This has proven popular with 10-15 girls taking part regularly and some now also attending the Saturday morning training session with Deeside Rugby club at 10.30am in Banchory. The girls have had a great attitude to learning the new skills and have progressed really well over the last few weeks.
Climbing Club – The new climbing club started this term with Dale Kitching and Mr Woods (Art Teacher) for S1 and S2 pupils. We had a good response for this and have a group of 10 currently in the club. We are restricted to ratios so those that did not get to take part in the club this term will be offered places for next term. The group has been working really well and all seem to be enjoying the new challenges. We are looking to take the group to visit the new climbing wall in Alford at the end of the block, which will be a great experience.
Senior Netball Team – The senior netball team played in the Scottish Schools Cup for the Open (S3-6) category and played well against Williamswood Academy in Renfrewshire. It was a tough match but the girls all put in 100% effort and had a great experience. Well done to all involved.
Cross Country Series – Aboyne Academy pupils and Banchory Academy pupils took part in the first two cross country races of the Active Schools series. The first race took place at the Academy and round Ladywood area, the second race took place on Aboyne green. We had a great turn out with 30 pupils taking part. We also had some pupils come along and volunteer their time to help out at the event and encourage the primary and academy runners which was great to see. Results are posted up outside the PE department and the last race of the series will take place on Monday 27th March at Aboyne Castle, meeting at the Coo Cathedral.
Thanks again to all our volunteers, teachers and pupils who take part in Active Schools clubs and activities. Your support is greatly appreciated.
